REVISED QUESTION (Meeting A Russian Woman)?
I have met a russian woman online, she is not a man (we have webcammed several times), she has not asked me for money, she wants me to come to russia, but I want her to come to america first because I feel safer at home, but she says I have to invite her in order for her to come to america. She says if I go to russia, we can go together to the US embassy and ask for info on how we can marry and return to america together. What are the proper steps to take in order for us to be together?
I love the ignorance of scared Americans (I can say it – I am an American).
You should like you know the signs to watch for, as far as scams go. I won’t harp on them.
She will not recieve a tourist visa to come to the USA. The US embassy issues less than 1% of the tourist applications it recieves from single Russian women. Having a child will not help. She must show she has “strong ties”, which to the US embassy means good job, money in the bank, owns a home, and is married. You will need to go to her first.
Besides – you are the man… you are afraid to go to Russia, but expect a single young woman to come to a strange country by herself to meet a man? Put aside the stories you hear about Russian women, and remember they are told that all American men that want a woman to come to the US to meet them are only looking to sell the woman into prostitution.
That said.. if you want a Russian bride, get over your unbased fears. Hop on a plane to Moscow or St. Petersburg and go visit her. It is perfectly safe (use your head – follow the same rules you would flying to Amsterdam for a week).
The steps…
You will need to fly there and meet her in person. If you want to marry in Russia, you will go the the regional marriage department in Russia and they will give you a list of things you must do to marry her. This includes having your US passport translated, the translation “legalized” in Moscow, applying and paying the fees, and waiting 30 days (or try to convince the marriage department head on why you can not wait 30 days).
After that, you will return to the USA and file an application with USCIS for her to come here as your wife. When they recieve it, you can take the receipt number and fill out an I129F (fiance/temporary spousal visa) and send it to USCIS. After 4-6 months, you will get an approval (or denial). If approved, they will send it to the National Visa center who will do an FBI background check on you, and an interpol check on her.
They will then send everything to the US embassy in Moscow (assuming the background checks come out ok). The embassy will invite her for an interview at the embassy, to talk about how she met you. The purpose is for the US State Department to determine if you have a real relationship or not. The whole process takes about 1 year.
And don’t fret – if she gets a visa and comes here, she will have “temporary status”. If she tries to divorce you in the first 2 years, she will be immediately deported. So don’t worry about what the neersayers tell you about “coming to the US just to get a visa”. I assure you that by the time you go through the whole process, you will know if she loves you (and if you love her).
Bring her here as a fiance, and you avoid the marriage hassle there, and you cut about 1 month off the USCIS waiting time (because you will only file the I129F).
